چکیده

Societal Impact Statement In blueberry, fruit color is one of the most important quality traits affecting consumers' choices. Both pigments and waxes impact color; however, their roles have not been clearly elucidated. Here, contributions anthocyanins to are characterized. A higher content ?-diketones—the second largest wax group in blueberries—determines a lighter hence revealing that, at harvest, contribute more than determining variations among blueberry varieties. Summary Fruit major marketability fruits by blueberries, although surface mainly determined (e.g., anthocyanins), cuticular also play role modulating color, given dense bloom normally preferred consumers. This study investigated composition 12 (seven northern highbush, three southern two hybrids) genotypes harvest (H1, representing first commercial pick, H2, pick). The ultrastructural morphology was analyzed four selected scanning electron microscopy. level profile were assessed. Total ranged from 27.7 95.8 ?g cm?2 H1 decreased an average 23.9% H2. Triterpenoids (62.5% total on average) ?-diketones (22.9% groups all genotypes, respectively. ?-Diketones previously proven affect leaf wheat; this study, strongly correlated with lightness surface. Scanning microscopy revealed distinct morphologies genotypes. No significant relationships found between or individual anthocyanin concentrations color. Our results suggest variation closely related anthocyanins, being particularly important. provides new insights for breeding programs aiming improve order meet market demand.

Cuticular waxes and flavonol aglycones of mistletoes.

Cuticular waxes of Viscum album subspecies and of V. cruciatum have been examined for their micromorphology and chemical composition. Wax crystalloids occur preferably as irregular platelets and rodlets, while deviant structures are found in small areas. Among the triterpenoids forming the wax layer, oleanolic acid is prevailing with some 80%. The quantitative composition of the long-chain alip...

What do microbes encounter at the plant surface? Chemical composition of pea leaf cuticular waxes.

In the cuticular wax mixtures from leaves of pea (Pisum sativum) cv Avanta, cv Lincoln, and cv Maiperle, more than 70 individual compounds were identified. The adaxial wax was characterized by very high amounts of primary alcohols (71%), while the abaxial wax consisted mainly of alkanes (73%). An aqueous adhesive of gum arabic was employed to selectively sample the epicuticular wax layer on pea...

The effects of stress on plant cuticular waxes.

Plants are subject to a wide range of abiotic stresses, and their cuticular wax layer provides a protective barrier, which consists predominantly of long-chain hydrocarbon compounds, including alkanes, primary alcohols, aldehydes, secondary alcohols, ketones, esters and other derived compounds. This article discusses current knowledge relating to the effects of stress on cuticular waxes and the...

McWRI1, a transcription factor of the AP2/SHEN family, regulates the biosynthesis of the cuticular waxes on the apple fruit surface under low temperature

Cuticular waxes of plant and organ surfaces play an important role in protecting plants from biotic and abiotic stress and extending the freshness, storage time and shelf life in the post-harvest agricultural products. WRI1, a transcription factor of AP2/SHEN families, had been found to trigger the related genes taking part in the biosynthesis of seed oil in many plants. But whether WRI1 is inv...
